Ask for what you need and it lands in a worksheet: invoices, credit notes, customer payments, recurring invoices, estimates, sales orders, retainer invoices, bills, vendor credits, vendor payments, purchase orders, expenses, recurring expenses, contacts, items, bank accounts, bank transactions, the uncategorised bank feed, chart of accounts, journals, taxes, currencies, projects, time entries, fixed assets, price books, locations, reporting tags and more.

Seven Zoho Books reports arrive the same way, as ordinary sheet data rather than a PDF: Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Cash Flow, General Ledger, and the AR and AP Ageing summaries. Ask for a table's columns and a few sample rows first if you want to see the shape of the data before pulling it. Every read is a pull you trigger, so you always know how current the numbers are.

Write-back that waits for you

A new connection is read-only. Write-back is enabled per connection, and can be limited to the record types you name. When you do write, rows are prepared on a staging sheet you can read and edit: invoices, bills, journals, expenses, payments applied to specific open documents, credit note applications, master data, attachments, bank categorisations and lifecycle actions such as mark sent, void and approve.

Each row is validated on its own and the sheet is re-read from the workbook immediately before sending, so anything not marked Valid, or already posted, is refused. Transactions that hit the general ledger - and every edit, void or delete - need an Approve click on a card naming the connection, sheet, entity and row count. That approval covers only the batch in front of you and expires after five minutes. Connections marked as production show a banner and ask for a fresh confirmation each Excel session.

Afterwards the sheet carries the answer: per-row status, the Zoho record id and the time it posted. Re-running the same sheet cannot post twice, because each row is stamped with its own idempotency key. There is no undo button in accounting - a reversal is a void, a credit note or a delete, written back through the same gates.

Setting it up

You need a Windows PC with desktop Excel and .NET Framework 4.8, a Zoho Books account, and a HISAB 360 licence or trial. HISAB 360 is Windows desktop software: it does not run on Excel for Mac, Excel on the web or Excel for iPad, and nothing is installed inside Zoho Books.

1. Download the installer, run it, and start Excel. The HISAB 360 panel opens from the ribbon.
2. Activate your licence and choose how the assistant runs - on your own Claude or Codex subscription, or on HISAB AI credits.
3. In the Zoho API Console, create a Server-based Application and add the redirect URL exactly as the connection wizard shows it. Copy the client id and client secret.
4. In the HISAB panel, open Connections, add a Zoho Books connection, paste the two values, pick your data centre, and leave it read-only.
5. Authorise in the browser window that opens. Your organisation is picked up automatically once you consent.
6. Ask for something - the trial balance, or this month's open invoices - and it lands in a sheet.
7. When you are ready to write, mark the connection write-capable and authorise again so the write scope is granted.
